BECOMING BROOKE, The Encouragement Coach:
Following the Breadcrumbs
One Green Rectangle at a Time...
It's October! Witches, spooky stories, and fairy tales are everywhere. But when it comes to following the breadcrumbs of our lives, we don't need a witch to show us the way.
We need Holy Spirit!
Last month, we talked about recognizing the little things in ourselves that might actually be gifts from Papa. Those things we dismiss as "just" who we are.
This month, let's continue our encouraging conversation with the journey.
When I first heard the words “Thanks for allowing me to be your Encouragement Coach,”
I literally looked toward heaven and said, "WHAT does that mean???!!!"
I accepted the identity pretty quickly. However, what was I supposed to do with it?
I prayed. I thought. I tried things. I researched. I listened. I learned. I made some art, wrote some poems, spoke on stages, and taught online.
Eventually, the ideas became a book, then a course, then a website, then more books.
There were YEARS in between before the books and website were “Suddenly” online.
Looking backward, I can see how Papa was preparing me, often without my recognizing it.
In what felt like waiting, I was learning. Social media, Canva, video editing, Zoom, YouTube, websites, and how to make all these things work together.
More importantly, I was learning what my message actually was.
Also, I was learning to trust Him and His plan, moment by moment
Papa has faithfully illuminated the path, step by step, but rarely the entire vision.
I mean, goodness, if He had shown me the whole thing at once,
I might have been terrified!
I'm not trained to build websites. But I can add one green rectangle.
(If you've been following my recent adventures, you know exactly what I mean! 😂)
Sometimes that's all we need to see.
The next step.
The next opportunity.
The next green rectangle.
WITH Him, Not FOR Him
Years ago, Rick and I studied Henry Blackaby's Experiencing God.
One of the lessons that stayed with me was learning to recognize
where God is already working and participate WITH Him.
Oh, how that understanding has grown!
There was a time when I wanted so desperately to make God proud of me. I wanted to work FOR Him. I pictured Him watching, waiting for me to get something wrong so He could smush me like a bug under His eternal thumb.
What a terrible picture of a loving Father!
As my understanding of Union with Father, Son, and Holy Spirit has deepened,
so has my understanding of the journey.
I don't have to run ahead, pushing my plans and hoping He'll bless them.
I can walk beside Him, holding His hand.
Step by step. Breath by breath.
We can create, explore, work, learn, rest, and enjoy life together.
And here's something wonderful:
I don't have to accomplish something extraordinary to be loved extraordinarily.
Neither do you.
Oh, my sweet Bee. I've been where you are, feeling what you're feeling.
I want to encourage you that Papa is "gooder" than you've been taught.
He's "gooder" than you've thought!
When you look back over your life, can you see where He's been?
Even in the hard times? Especially in the hard times?
Maybe you've spent years striving, pushing, and working because you thought that's what a "good Christian" was supposed to do.
What if you could simply walk WITH Him?
Maybe your purpose is already being beautifully expressed in the life you're living.
Maybe the next step is something new.
Or maybe it's simply recognizing Who's been beside you all along.
You are already loved. Already accepted. ALREADY someone Papa delights in!
If you never accomplished one more whateveritis, His love for you would not diminish.
So, my Sweet Bee, look back and recognize His faithfulness.
Look around and enjoy His presence.
Look forward knowing you don't have to walk alone.
Let's learn to walk with Him together!
You're amazing and created for a purpose!
